Brevets in India

Brevets in India are organised by Audax India Randonneurs (AIR), the all-India organisation of randonneurs recognised by Audax Club Parisien (ACP) for conducting and overseeing Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRMs) and Audax events in India. More information is available at audaxindia.in.

AIR authorises clubs in cities across India to organise brevets on its behalf. Organisers follow a documented set of rules, and riders are expected to ride safely and fairly.

The main brevet distances are 200, 300, 400 and 600 km. Completing the set in one calendar year earns the title of Super Randonneur. Shorter 100 and 150 km brevet populaires offer a starting point for beginners, while 1,000 and 1,200 km long-range events add a further challenge.

The spirit of a brevet is endurance, not racing to win. It is about enjoying the ride and staying safe on the road. Shekhoo Shyam Raja, who founded AdvBase, organises brevets in Gwalior under the banner of Gwalior Cycling Rangers. The video below offers an immersive look at brevets in India.

About this topic

The AdvBase archive connects Indian brevets with the practical side of long-distance cycling: choosing a distance, preparing for long hours on the road, staying supplied and finding a sustainable pace. Responses from riders in Gwalior and elsewhere show brevets as organised endurance rides, but also as a way to build a local cycling community and work towards longer goals.

  • Most popular onesThe current archive mentions BRM 600 rides from Gwalior to Dausa, Gwalior to Jaipur and Lucknow to Gorakhpur, along with a BRM 1000 from Delhi to the Attari Border.
  • Also mentionedShekhoo says he has organised brevets himself and with Delhi Randonneurs, and organises 100 km rides for Gwalior Cycling Rangers when participation is sparse.

I ride solo. I organise brevets for Gwalior Cycling Rangers, but since participation is sparse, I only organise 100 km rides.
